Making the Process Efficient
Why is our proposal process so difficult and inefficient?
Short answer: Because your company has failed to get control of the process. While you may not be involved in proposals day to day, you need to manage these efforts with the same commitment and attention that you do core programs and projects.
These issues and others are discussed in The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Getting Government Contracts.
In fact, Chapters 11–20, contain details about how to manage the proposal creation process. Here are some highlights.
- Create a Proposal Plan and maintain it as a living document
- Plan all activities, to proposal delivery (and beyond, if applicable), featuring milestones and accomplishments
- Hold daily stand-up meetings, for all team members, at the same time each day; no exceptions
- Keep the daily meetings crisp, and brief
- Document the meetings in an easily understood way
- Do all you can to involve Top Management in the creation process, because the Number One reason for losing is the lack of Top Management involvement in the creation process
