John Lauderdale helps companies to define, improve, and refine proposal planning and execution processes so that they are better able to keep and obtain government contracts. He is also the author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Getting Government Contracts, which is part of Penguin Publishers’ distinguished and popular book series for curious, smart, and motivated readers.

For more than 20 years, John has served as an independent consultant to large, mid-size and small businesses, helping them to win billions of dollars in defense and civilian government contracts. He works with companies throughout the United States.

Through his focus and expertise, John also counsels companies on the best practices for obtaining government business. In today’s environment, with government contracts facing ever increasing complex and changing requirements, it is especially important to understand these dynamics as well as to prepare thorough and informative proposals.

John is also a frequent featured speaker at the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP), both at the annual national meetings and with the National Capital Area Chapter. APMP helps its members to obtain new business by providing education on the latest trends and issues in proposal development.

John has also served in government. At the Executive Office of the President, Office of Management and Budget (OMB), he was a program analyst. He had lead responsibility for developing the annual budget for a high-tech government agency.

John holds a B.S. in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and an M.B.A. in Operations Research from The American University in Washington, D.C. He lives in suburban Washington, D.C. with his family.
